A scientist
A scientist
A scientist does not always wear lab coat,
khaki fieldwork clothes, nor space suit.
A scientist does not always speaks eloquently,
often have difficulties putting their thoughts into words .
A scientist stands in the shoulders of giants,
but often feels the weight of many in their own shoulders.
A scientist contributes to world knowledge,
but often suffers from imposter syndrome.
A scientist does not always know everything,
often requires further investigation.
A scientist does not always understands politics,
but keeps on trying to change politicians minds.
Not all scientists have crazy hair,
despite might be a statistical significance related to that.
Not all scientist are complicated,
we are just used to look at details with extreme precision.
A scientist also has a life,
close relationships with family and friends.
A scientist is a human,
and like any other makes mistakes.

This poem was written by Diana Vieira (first version June 2023), and was inspired from a reflection on how scientists are perceived, and how our diverse characteristic and emotions often show another version of reality.
